The Bream is a deep bodied fish that is relatively thin across the body. Common Bream can grow to a large size and while small bream of both species are silver in colour, large Common Bream can be a bronze colour.

Silver Bream whilst very similar in appearance do not grow so large and retain the silver colouration that they share will smaller Common Bream.

Bream are found in stillwaters such as lakes and canals and the slower reaches of rivers. A shoal fish, large catches are possible.

Baits

All maggot baits as well as worm will catch Bream of all sizes. Larger Bream can be caught using sweetcorn, bread and the more modern Boilie and Pellet baits favoured by Carp anglers.

Tactics

Legering for bream using a groundbait feeder is a popular method for Bream fishing.

Bream have sensitive mouths, so small fine wire hooks are often used, along with very fine quivertips to indicate the least movement.
